Mr. WrightSuperintendent Michael Wright: Welcome to our District

On behalf of the Earlham Community School District, Board of Education, our faculty, staff, and employees, I welcome you to Earlham Community Schools and our website. Earlham Community Schools, located just 20 minutes west of Des Moines, our school is the heartbeat of our community.  The district has a tradition of  of outperforming our statewide peers academically, athletically, and in fine arts. We are blessed with talented, hardworking, and dedicated students, teachers, staff, administrators, and a community that creates this positive environment.

Earlham Community Schools serves students in Preschool through twelfth grade.  Earlham CSD  prepares children to be lifelong learners. Our mission, “empowering innovative, adaptive and resourceful learners.” remains the same. To meet and exceed our vision statement which is “to provide all learners with skills and diverse educational opportunities to engage all learners in relevant, real-world experiences, and to develop learners confidence, character and perseverance so that they will positively impact their world”, we strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment to enable all students to achieve their full potential. Our goal is to build and strengthen a collaborative atmosphere, always work in the best interest of our students, and pursue excellence in education with a challenging curriculum for all of our students.

Our success is directly due to our amazing employees. Our teachers are the best in the area because of our commitment to their ongoing professional development. Their attention to our students is exceptional; they produce the magic of learning in our classrooms every single day. The district’s commitment to providing the most updated technology available to our students and teachers is simply another example of how our teachers are learning side by side with the students and preparing the students for the ever-changing world in which we live. Our parents are also significant partners and a key reason for our collective success. We know that working together with parents equals achievement for our students. The graph below is an example of how our student compare with students in the State and Heartland AEA  on the Iowa Assessment in Reading and Math in the spring of 2018:

Extracurricular activities abound through strong fine arts and athletic programs. The district is a member of the West Central Athletic Conference and despite being the smallest school in the conference, the Cardinals consistently compete for conference championships. The softball team qualified for the State Tournament in  2018 and both boys and girls cross-country teams ran at the State Meet in Ft. Dodge this fall.  The FFA (Future Farmers of America) and Ag Education programs are regular champions at regional and State contests. In 2017, a former FFA student, Cassie Bond, served as the South Central State Vice President and Erica Baier served as the National FFA Secretary. The district has completed an 1,100 seat gymnasium to replace the gym built in 1957. The new complex includes a state of the art weight room and cardio fitness areas, multiple courts, new locker rooms, offices, training room, restrooms. The all-weather track and turf football field are five years old and have proven to be a community asset as they are used by everyone in the community for everything from youth football to soccer to any lifetime fitness activities The recently remodeled weight room has been converted to another space for Physical Education as well as an outstanding wrestling practice room.

The fine arts programs have continually been recognized as outstanding. The speech department regularly has participants at the All-State Festival. The drama department has performed a variety of plays and musicals, and participated in the 2017 Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards Showcase. The instrumental music program has received 8 consecutive Division I Ratings at State Marching Band Contest, State Concert Band Contest and were the 2017 Class 2A State Champions at the Jazz Championship.  The district hosts all performances in our 600-seat auditorium with recently updated sound and lighting system including the annual Jack Oatts Jazz Festival for schools around the State.

You will gain a true understanding of how much we care about every child’s education by observing our staff and our students first-hand. Please come in and visit our schools; our principals would be happy to schedule a tour for you.
